manual slide out locking arm

I have a 2016 Newmar Ventana 4036 LA.
Does anyone use the slide out "manual locking arms" aside from the two easy to access arms just behind the passenger and drivers seats?

I can easily see not remembering to unlock the second locking arms on either slide and cause damage to the slide.

Just as bad would be the damage one may cause while utilizing the heavy, cumbersome locking/unlocking bar in such a tight access space.

I presently set up a "cover" flap over my slide out switches to remind me to unlock the "visible" arms on the two slide outs I presently utilize.

The bed slide out, is even more subject to damage since both sides have locking arms out of sight and difficult to access. A switch cover flap would also have to be installed over the switch would be my reminder for me.

I was at the Newmar factory today picking up a unit in for warranty work. I told them my dealer had told me it was not necessary to lock the slides. They immediately instructed me how to use them properly and stressed the importance of using them.

Their response was that a little time while traveling will save a lot of repair money later.

I have to climb over the bed to lock the full wall and the bedroom slide and I will have to remember to unlock them when I stop but the ride home was a lot more quiet. I plan the use the repair money for upgrades.

I also highly recommend using the factory repair services, They are knowledgeable and very professional. I don't trust the dealers but the folks in Newmar's building 16 were helpful and I enjoyed talking with them.

The factory tour is closed for a couple of months, I had looked forward to seeing that. Maybe next time.

I have made a checklist for everything on my MH. As a former pilot I was used to check lists and I value their importance. You could do the same thing and add the locking arms to the list. The list also prevents you from forgetting other important things.

$2,000.00 to fix damage from not unlocking slide out locks. Yes, I still use them but am now a lot more careful about opening slides. Just in case you were interested.
