If I won a giant lottery I still wouldn't buy a new one!! They are over designed technically and underbuilt. I am willing to bet those manufacturers don't even know what QC stands for let alone run a program for that. I like my trouble free 8 year old one thanks. At least I don't have to ponder if something goes wrong - I am fixing it and it will get done correctly.
Too bad about the microwave falling. With the people I have camped alongside in the US last 4 months I bet nice people of the same caliber are there beside you and would help for free to fix it. I know I would and have helped people with repairs and turned down offers of money. Heck - it keeps me off the booze so I see value there.

OP, hire someone to do exactly what Mrfix did.

We are talking $10 in extra material and an hour of labor.

The service center is a gamble on getting a safe repair. $300.00, oh man, that works out to $100.00 per fastener (notice I didn't say the other word).
