Mattress Replacement - An Educated Approach

Good day Fellow RVer’s
I know this subject has been discussed and gone over before, but I want to further the information on this subject. Sooner or later we are faced with the decision of replacing the cheap or worn mattress in our rigs. Some people recommend Tempurpedic, others Sleep Number, and the rest a National Brand such as Seeley is discussed. Although these inputs are useful for a selection, the problem with this is each person has different needs as to their “comfort level” for a mattress. The mattress industry purposely intends to keep customers in the dark and use heavy Madison Ave. tatics use of TV and radio ads to persuade the public to buy their product. Furthermore, mattress people are trained to “make the sale” with little or no knowledge of the construction or materials used in them.
Recently, the DW came across a blog that she reads about full timers – DV Dreams. The OP’s in this article was faced with the same dilemma of replacing their mattress in their rigs:

This web site has an abundance of very useful information so that the buyer becomes “armed” with the information necessary to get the best buy/performance for their particular needs. It is an extensive read, but well worth it, avoiding costly mistakes when replacing your Rig’s mattress.

The Sleep Number system can be soft, firm, hard whatever you
find to be comfortable. Each side is individually adjustable.
And it has a great warranty.
What more could anyone want ?

We bought a Casper mattress. (it is a little firm for me, but way better than the cheap one that was in there) You get to sleep on it for 100 nights to see if you like it. If not, they will pay the shipping back and refund all your money. I think there are several companies out there that do the same thing. Just remember when you open it up and release the vacuum seal on the package, it is where you want it. LOL

The underground web site has some "good insight" into air mattress like Sleep Number. Something to consider before choosing this type.

My first class A had a quality spring mattress and we really liked it. The next class A came with a Sleep Number and it slept so well we bought another for the house. Problem was when we went to the mountains it would swell like a hot air balloon when ever I forgot to drop the air pressure. Made me nervous.
This class A came with a quality 10"foam mattress that I planed to replace with a Sleep Number but after the first few night sleeping on it, we find it extremely comfortable.
Long story, short. Almost any high quality mattress will sleep well if we give our bodies time to adjust and they give proper support.
