Max Air vent. Does it have a Gasket?

I removed my Max Air vent w/fan and there is a gasket where it meets the roof. Its not a water seal, I assumed it is to force the fan to pull air from the RV and not around the vent cover. The local RV store says there is not supposed to be gasket. There is a groove for one. Anyone have any experience with this?

I appologize for posting too soon. I was anxious to get this project done before it rains. I just looked at the installation guide from MaxAir and there is a gasket for the previously stated reason.
