MCD windshield shade motor replacement

Good afternoon,

Both of my MCD indshield shades (2009 Tiffin Phaeton QTH) stopped working. I purchased new shade motors from Tiffin but when I took the shades down to change the motors, I couldn't get the old motors out. Is there a trick to removing the old motors? Do they have to be in a particular position before the old motors will come out? Thanks in advance for any assistance provided.

Thanks,
Stang

I don't know if MCD shades are much different from AutoMotion shades, but when I repaired my AutoMotion shade I had to remove the end plate from the shade and the motor was right behind that plate. It took some serious tugging to get the motor out, but it did come out.

Never heard of both motors going out at the same time. I would suspect a circuit problem.

I would check to make sure they didn't lose their programming. Mine seem to be sensitive to voltage and will beep and then not go up or down.

Thanks for the info. Been running like crazy the past 5 days. Will continue to tug on the motor. Circuit test was good. Thanks again.

I believe there is a set screw holding the motor in. If I recall correctly from watching someone else replace a shade motor, they had to cut a bit of the shade to get to the screw.

Solution

That was it...I unrolled the screens and sure enough there were set screws about 10 inches down. New motors installed and programmed this afternoon.

Thanks all,
Stang
