Hi All: Just a point of interest. We unpacked our passenger front storage area today. I found three melted areas with the plastic floor looked like it dripped down towards the muffler and tail pipe. I looked under the motor home and my only conclusion was heat from the muffler and tail pipe had done the melting. I ordered a heat barrier pad to put on the bottom to stop the damage. Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

Olly......something is not right with your MH & putting a heat barrier in place is just a bandaid in my opinion.

1) I would post this issue on the Winnibago forum and see if any other Itasca owners have experienced anything like this.

2) At a minimum I'd stop by an Itasca dealership and have a tech crawl under the chassis to see what is going on.

3) Once you have a clear diagnosis of the problem, you can decide what needs to be done.

Bottom line......Itasca did not design your exhaust to melt your storage bins! Good luck.

Was there a heat shield on the muffler/tailpipe that came off? Strange it wouldn't happen until now. Check the exhaust for a crack or leak.

I agree with Jack1234, I'd have a dealer check it out, heat and plastic is not something to bandaid. The whole thing could go up.

It *may* be a blocked catalytic converter. They are known to get cherry red and catch things on fire. Happened to my wife and MIL once.

Plastic floor above the tail pipe?

Are you sure no foreign materials came in contact with the exhaust?
Run over a plastic bag or something like that?

Need alittle more info on your rig, so fill out your Signature. Was there work done on the exhaust, if so did they put it back in the right place? My exhaust does not run anywhere near the front storage area. It does however exit in front of the drivers side rear tire.
