Correct. Those tandem tires are not mine. I am the OP, and included a pic of my XRV2 with a blown sidewall.

CC-Any resolution on what caused the damage to your inside dual? Rock?

CC was there any marks or evidence on the opposing dual? That rupture looks very similar to what happens to our water trucks when a rock gets hung between the duals. It's usually a result of driving like that for a ways. Sometimes it can cause both tires to blow at once.

The scare from blowouts is not only the safety side but from the collateral damage that it does to surrounding areas. It is almost like we should install checker plate above the tires somehow to take the impact of the flying rubber.
Last year on our way through the Bakersfield area going to Arizona a rental C class passed us (we were doing 60) and one tire was flapping on the left dual. Flashed them a couple of times but to no avail. 20 miles down the road they were pulled over with both left dual tires shredded. These blowouts that occur it would be real interesting to see what speed it happens at. I use my portable TPMS at every stop. Called a mallet - truck driver at a stop commented to me that that is a rare sight amongst RVers. He congratulated me. No blowouts and 10 year old Michelin XRVs but as said earlier to be changed this spring when I get her out.

I think the checker plate or rebar roll cage or sumthin could be installed to lessen the chance of tearing the front of the MH apart when a front tire blows.
How hard could it be?

I think the OP had a rock in his duals-easy to miss-doesn't look to me like it can be blamed on Michelin.

I put 1/8" aluminum sheets screwed in the ten inch area above the tires on my travel trailer, something similar could be done.

Two blow outs just chewed through the black barrier and foam, also had a wheel bearing catch fire could've helped protect from heat.

I saw a man on YouTube get new tires on his coach and the installer always sets the lug covers on top of the tire, he couldn't find one and gave up, many miles down the road a tire blew with damage to the other dial as well.
The cap dropped in between the two tires and sliced cuts in both.

If a two dollar part can cause that much damage, a few hundred bucks and some thought might safe thousands.

I had a 2013 Michelin blow at 3 years old. Looked identical to yours. Michelin offered no warrenty, said it was road hazzard. I replaced with Toyo.

I may be the exception, but I like Michelin tires. My 2005 Itasca Suncruiser still has the original Michelin XRV 235/80R-22.5 tires. They were manufactured in the 38th week of 2004. So they are now almost 14 years old with only about 25,000 miles on them. They have never caused me any problems. There is no cracking or checking anywhere on the tires and they are far from worn out. That is probably due to the fact that I live in northeastern Canada, where we do not get a lot of strong sun or high temperatures. I keep the tires clean, pressures checked regularly and I check the tire temperatures with an infrared thermometer at each gas stop. Also the MH is parked in my storage warehouse 10-11 months each year. I have ordered a new set of 6 Michelin XRVs as I know that I am past the recommended tire life.

I have Michelin tires on my 2007 Ford F250, on my wife's Explorer Latitude Tour in the summer and X-ice in the winter and on our Chev Tracker toad.

If you still have the tire on-hand, look for a nail in the same area of the air infiltration....
