Mirror defrost switch - which way is on??

I have a 2015 Coachmen Mirada 35LS.

At the bottom left of the "dashboard" is the switch for the side mirrors. The bottom of the switch has the mirror controls (R, L, U, D) I've got that figured out OK.

Just above the mirror controls is a very small rocker switch, mounted horizontally. It is red/orange. I suspect it has a light in it, but I've never seen it lit up.

Does anyone know which way is on for this switch? Or more importantly, which way is OFF for the switch? I suspect I have left it on and drained the chassis battery, and in turning it off/on several times, I no longer remember which position I started from.

Someone in the collective wisdom of iRV2 must know the answer!

Thanks!

Depends on who mounted it. Take out the switch and use a multimeter to determine, or better yet, replace switch with one that has a working light

Typically a horizontal rocker switch would be mounted such that pressing the right side would close the switch (turn power on). But I've seen factory wired switches done wrong before...

You can test it on a cool morning when there is condensation on the mirror (the mirror should heat up within a very few minutes). Or maybe find a fuse for the mirror switch and use an ammeter to see how the amps change when you flip the switch. Or disassemble it as Reprobate suggested.

An IR temp probe should give you a change in temp in a few minutes. You might want to shoot at some masking tape on mirror at same spot. Shiny surfaces affect the guns can't get shinier than a mirror.

Most likely, the mirror only heats when the coach is running. I doubt that it's draining your battery when the coach is off. Have you started the coach and tried the switch to see if it illuminates.

That's how mine works. Usually if the mirror movement controls don't work with ignition off, neither will the heater.

marc, if the switch is a Carling switch, replacement are widely available at auto parts stores, including the tool required to remove the rocker part.

Can you get at the contacts on both sides of the switch? If both sides have voltage, it's on.

Our switch .... don't know if wired wrong but seems to work (at least I know the light switch works). With ignition key in accessory mode, right side toggle down has a red LED dot showing & is not lit up; when toggling down left side, the switch lights up

(Not sure if heat actually works since never knowingly used, always cleaned snow or ice; maybe now will test when mirrors fogged up).

See photos attached:
Left toggle down lights up, probably heat on
Right toggle down light goes out, so assume power off.
