Do you have an RV now? Is it an option to just wait a year to buy the dream RV, establish residency in one of the tax advantage states (you may decide MT isn't even the best fit for you) & skip the headache.

FWIW-

Last December we sold our home in FL to go full time and own no other property.

We were buying a new DP and I researched the heck out of this including the MT LLC.

Ultimately we went with South Dakota which was 4% vs FL 6%. The LLC would have been 0% but the startup and ongoing costs to maintain the LLC erode those savings. My sales tax was $10,600 with SD on a $265K DP.

My conclusion was the LLC makes sense if you are buying into the Prevost level.

Lumberman we went through action services out of Missoula, they were very helpful and easy to work with. Don't buy your coach in your home state, the dealer gets audited for taxes collected.

Our son was tempted to do the Montana LLC route, but decided against it when he learned the possible cost if audited or caught in some other fashion. He paid the $80,000+ sales tax and sleeps well at night no matter what state he's in.

When your research starts up again also look at the cost and availability for insurance.

I have received contradictory opinions as to whether the insurance is actually higher for an LLC. Likewise some have said only a limited number of insurers will write an LLC policy.
