My 02 Alfa SeeYa is the same way. There are two valves UNDER the coach about 2/3 the way back. The run along a cross member there. The are typical gate valves like you have on your yard faucets. In Cold climate, these valves should be wide open. If you travel in extremely hot climate, they should only be slightly open.
I run mine open all the way all the time. I try to avoid driving when the outside temp. is over 100 degrees but I have driven across the desert from Lake Havasu to Sacramento when the outside temp. was over 105 and did not have an over-heating problem.
Even with the valves open all the way, I still use an electric space heater running the gen set or us LP gas and run the furnace.
