Our 38' is measures 38 feet.

We specifically aimed to be under 40' back in 2002 due to a then recent law.

MS Happy Camper

If you were to license in CA, that 41' Class A Motorhome would require a non-commercial Class B drivers license vs the House Car Class C license for 40' and under.

Also, you will be legally restricted to travel on designated Federal Highways and short arteries to those routes while in California.

Fortunately, I have yet hear of anyone meeting an LEO who wants to enforce the regulations.

I think our 45 foot Integra is 45 feet long. Now you all have got me thinking and I have to go measure it.

Yep, .... I guess it’s only important to know for sure when you’re getting ready to slam the garage door.

Our Tiffin 36UA measures 38 feet. Seems like it would make so much more sense to have model names equal actual lengths.

I agree in principle, but that's harder in some cases. My model comes with a choice of 2 chassis. It's called the 26B. On the Ford chassis, it's 27'6", and on the Chevy chassis it's 28'. So, should the model be 27B or 28B? Split the difference and call it a 27.75B?

You would think there would be an industry standard way to measure.
I would also think there is a 45' max on non articulated vehicles so any 45 footer should certainly be 45' or less according to however the feds are supposed to measure.

This dimensions story comes from a 'friend':

*****

I rented a 8 x 14 storage unit in a mini-storage business.

After loading everything in, we slid our twelve-foot kayak in over the top of everything.
The twelve-foot kayak was too long for the fourteen-foot space.

My tape-measure proved they rented me a space 6'8" x 11'9", a far-cry from 8 x 14.
The insufferable on-site millennial managerette laughed at me as she pointed to the 'approximately' on the rates-for-sizes display.
She sneered "You need to pay attention before you sign the contract! Our listed dimensions are 'approximate'! Get it!"

After we moved to another unit at a different mini-storage, we visited a large local-owned sporting goods store [Wild Sports, Orangevale, California], then we squeezed skunk-lure for trappers all into the particle-board interior.
Of the 'approximately' 8 x 14.

*****

According to the telling around a campfire, the fragrance made your eyes water... with the roller-door down... from twenty feet away... upwind.
Approximately down.
Approximately twenty feet away.

Don't forget to measure the mirrors, as well as the ladder. I can't fit my 40PMT is a 40' garage because I measure over 42'. I refuse to fold my mirrors.

Every RV we've owned was longer, bumper to bumper, than the model number indicated. I just figured I was getting more for my money.

I think there will be a lot of tape measures coming out in the next few days.
My coach had 20" of mirrors sticking out in front and 7" of ladder.
Tomorrow I will measure mine as I'm curious. When we cross to Vancouver island, they measure and we pay by the foot!

Our 45 ft RV fits by 2 inches in the supposedly 50 ft storage bay we rent.

That is with my tow bar on the back of the coach which adds about a foot and a half.

I have not measured either the bay or the RV. Maybe both are a little off but it is a squeeze.

That 400 in the model number is probably 400 inches which works out to 33' 4" so you're good. No false advertising there. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
