Sure seems to be very high price for a solenoid!

The Magna has an emergency shut off switch right beside the engine as well as a fuel shut off just inside the back door. I hope I never have to use them!

It's 6:30 am & I'm on the road so cannot get that number for you yet. I'll get as soon as possible & send it to you. I don't have a picture but when we get the part # we should be able to find it online.

I see the solenoid part going for $40 or so on Ebay.

Also, did this whole system get changed for the 24v 5.9 in 99 and newer?

Yes the 12 valve and 24 valve fuel systems , have no similar parts.
Then again in 2003 HPCR , was a complete change again.
I worked for 14 years ( 1993-2007) at Dodge on Cummins 5.9 engines ; 4 entirely different fuel systems.
The last time I replaced the fuel control solenoid , on the inline pump that was used from 94 to 98 1/2, cost was $650 then , and that was 15 years ago.
The fuel control solenoid is the part on the right hand side in post #6.

I used a $70 shutdown solenoid from Ebay to replace my solenoid on a C8.3L Cummins.

In between times I used a wire to lift the shank for starting the rig, and release the wire to stop the rig.

So, you are never stranded with a shut down solenoid failure in either mode. (There are two magnets in the solenoid. One for starting position and one for run position.)

Took me about 2 hours to install the new one.

It would have been quicker if I had read the instructions first........

The part was a NAPA #22355 fuel cut-off solenoid. It can be seen here: http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...355_0442561964. It sure looks like I was ripped off!

The fuel cutoff solenoid is a NAPA part #22355. Go to NAPA.com & type in that number. And by the way, I did get ripped off!

I hate to agree with you. But you did get ripped off!

Well, possibly you can take some comfort in the knowledge that while you lost a bit of money, that other guy lost his reputation.

Manual Diesel Shutdown

I rigged a light stainless steel cable with a nice loop for my fingers to fit thru hooked to the fuel shutoff lever. In the event the engine would not shut down I simply pull the cable = engine off! You could use any strong line but I wanted to install this emergency shutoff ONE TIME. Voila!!

The outfit that ripped me off was Maz-Tech of Boise, Idaho. The mechanic was great but the price of repair (including the part) was ridiculous.
