My first tire blowout!
Well, it finally happened! After 11 years of driving the MH I had my first tire blow yesterday. I took the MH out for a little exercise since I hadn't driven it in a month or so. I was driving down a 4-lane highway when I heard what sounded like a shotgun blast, and felt the jolt. It was an inside tire on the rear so I didn't have any problem keeping it under control and coming to a stop completely off the pavement.
I was able to drive it home, VERY slowly! I couldn't hear any noise from the tire as I was driving, so don't know what condition it is in. This was just before dark so I just parked it on the concrete pad and locked it up for the night. I had to be at a doctor's clinic this morning for a lower back injection so haven't looked at it yet.
I don't really understand why it happened, since the tire was only 15 years old, as are the other tires on the rear! Yeah, I know! It was a dumb thing to do!
Now I gotta do a lot of research and shopping for four new tires. I bought Michelins for the front a while back and would like to stay with them, but those things are REALLY expensive. I would really appreciate hearing your opinions and experiences with less expensive tires. They are 295-80R-22.5.

next lot over my neighbor had Hercules tires put on the rear , he already had replaced the front with Michlens the year before.I think he used motorhometires.com, they came to his place and changed them in the driveway. Personally Im a Toyo fan as are many others. I had them on my Beaver marquis.295/80. Wow 15 years .. Got a good "bang" for your buck on those
Good luck on your search!

I run the Toyo M144 in 295/80R 22.5 on the rear with a set of G670's on the front. SUPER happy with them, they balanced really well (according to my tire guy), and they are smooth as glass. I also have centramatics on the rear. Ran me $2800 all in for the 4. I'll be putting two new M144s on the front likely this summer.

I haven't gotten under there today to check it out. After my lower back injection this morning I'm supposed to just lay around and take it easy for the rest of the day. I'll give it a good inspection tomorrow. When I got stopped and looked under there yesterday I could see s wire hanging down that I suspect was going to the ABS sensor, but not sure.
It did damage the fiberglass around the outside molding. I'll post a pic of this later.

Thankfully you’re safe. When buying tires, would ask myself how much is my or my passengers life worth. Anything above nothing makes it an easy decision. Be safe.

ONLY 15 years?? O.o
I'm looking at replacing the ones I on the monaco I just bought because they are 14-15 years old, I feel comfortable using older tires on my offroad rigs, but damn, 5-6 is recommended and 10 years is definitely getting down to EOL

I had an inside dual blowout...Cost about $12,000 to repaor the damage as it ripped out a wiring harness going to my house control panel.
AAA covered it all.
Let us know what you find.....Oh and I hope your back is feeling better.

If you do a search, you will find several brands that people like. I have Toyo's and love them. They were the cheapest at the time I purchased them. Continental and Sumitomo tires seem to be mentioned a lot as well. Between six and seven years max. Sorry for your damage, but it will remind others that it cost more to fix the damage than to purchase the tires on time. Don't tell your insurance company that you drove on that blown tire. They may deny coverage clamming that the damage was cause by you continuing to drive.

MSHappyCampers..Is it assumed that you don't have a TPMS on board since you didn't mention it?

Yes, I do have a TPMS and it probably went off when the tire blew, but I was too busy to notice it at that point!

Yep. A TPMS will alarm on low pressure but may not catch a blowout. A buddy had TPMS on his enclosed car trailer and said he heard: Beep - BANG. He ended up having to reskin the entire side of the trailer.

I just got a price from a local tire dealer on the Toyo M144 tires. Four tires, including mounting (I will provide my own beads) and sales tax, $2503.00. That's by far the lowest I have found! These have a code date of March 2023!
