It's not chewed wood so it's not ants. I am convinced that it was as the first poster suggested. The silicone that they put inside tape dispensers to weigh them down. Mine does feel curiously lightweight now.

Found it!

Yes, it was from the tape dispenser. It has a stuck on 1.5" square pads on the bottom of the dispenser that's made of 'anti-slide' type material. It is not noticeable but loose on one corner of one of the two that covers a 1/2" hole in the case and whenever it bounced up while traveling, the silicone inside got pulled down by gravity and ended up outside the containment compartment of the dispenser.

The anti-slide pad was stuck on just enough that whenever I pulled it out of the cabinet, nothing would spill out. As a test, I banged it on the table. And out spilled a little silicone. Weird that over 4 years of using the dispenser a lot, it had never spilled out while I was using it.

So TFryMan nailed it in the first attempt at solving the mystery. Thank you, tfryman! He must be a detective.

Mystery Solved! You folks are great.

That's some inspector Adrian Monk level observation right there.

I zoomed up the photo as big as I could and when I did, I was surprised how much the sand granules matched the color of that slip-grip pad everything is resting on. And then looking at the slip-grip pad (really blow up the photo), it looks like the threads running through it are worn down to white.

I say this because we have the same stuff in our cabinet drawers at home and after time of the drawer opening and closing and stuff on top moving around, when picking up the no-stick stuff, there is almost always white stuff, similar to what you are seeing.

Remove that no-stick-no-slide pad stuff and see what happens. We use to use this stuff all over our camper and quit using it for this very reason. It shreds down to dust which is annoying to sweep up all the time.

Already found the source, DutchmenSpor. Verified it as the sand coming from inside the tape dispenser. Thanks for the idea tho.
