Mystery Leak
'02 Monaco Dynasty- just above the starter (Cummins ISL 400hp) there is what looks like a small pump of some sort, with a couple of hoses attached. There is a clear fluid dripping from this down onto the starter and running around and dripping to the ground. I originally thought it was just water, but it is definitely an oily liquid. Does anyone know what is above the starter on these coaches? I think I remember that there is a hydraulic system that runs the cooling fan but do not know where the reservoir or pump is. Any insight would be appreciated.

Lift pump. Does the liquid smell like diesel?

It does not smell like diesel, and it is clear as water. It has an oily residue when rubbed between your fingers. It is also not from the water separater....I found that on the diagram. This is much smaller, more towards the front of the coach, and almost hidden behind the starter (which is why I can't see it very well)...just in front of the oil pressure sending unit.

Attached is a Technical Service Bulletin from Cummins on the lift pump for both ISL and ISC engines in your year range.
My suspicion is that it is your lift pump leaking.
If it is do some searches on either a FASS or Airdog install which allows you to completely bypass the lift pump which is notorious for leaking and if not addressed can result in the CAPS injection pump failure. You can replace the lift pump which MIGHT solve your problem long term.
Same thing happen to me, I opted for the FASS install.

Thank you for the info. It seems to be a lot easier to address an issue when you at least know what the issue is....LOL. I so appreciate the wealth of knowledge and experience to draw from. Thanks again!

apologies for an earlier post.....I guess it does smell like diesel after all, because it is definitely the lift pump. Really hoping after I get it cleaned up so I can find the bolts, that I can tighten them and stop the leaking until I get home. Thanks for all the input.

Thanks for that....and I wish mine had that much access! You can't see mine at all from the top, and only get glimpses from the bottom.....oh well, that is what makes it fun

Why not pull the offending bolt, put some sealer on it and re-install ?
