Need 2 New House Batteries

We have a 98 Monaco Dynasty. Time for 2 new house batteries. OEM batteries were Interstate SDM -4d. I currently have Astrolite 4d batteries. Don't want to break the bank for new batteries. I am looking at Interstate SRM-4d for replacement. Since this is an older coach there is not the demand for high electrical needs. I have taken out the rv fridge for replacement but might go the residential route. Will not be keeping this coach for much more than 4 years. Any recommendations ? Thanks

I think these batteries would serve you well.

My thought to offer: Is your inverter the older "modified sine wave" technology? Some electronics within products are "not happy" with such a waveform. The refrigerator compressor motor probably won't care, but the "computer" within the refrigerator might fail.

Thanks ! Yes...have the MSW. If I went RR I think as you say it would be wise to go with a PSW. Don't think its worth to spend that extra for a new inverter since we don't plan on keeping the coach for a long time. I found a Interstate 4DDC made for rvs...looks like a plan !

+1

Deep cycle 4 -6 V will serve far better and longer than 2-12 VDC they will also be harder to abuse and can run a residential fridge all night long through a decnt inverter, if required.

I have seen that the 6v are more recommended. I will have to go measure the battery tray and see if 4 will fit. Then figure out how to connect the 6 v. Never done that before !!! Any certain brands you would recommend for the 6v ?

I just replaced by originals with the following from Interstate;https://www.interstatebatteries.com/...ts/gc2-ecl-utl

For $75, the local Interstate dealer came to me, removed the old batteries, neutralized/cleaned the battery bin, cleaned up the interconnecting cables and installed the new batteries, including terminal spray to help prevent corrosive buildup.

If you have questions about hooking them up - PM me, or ask the forum.

I just installed two Duracell 6 volt GC2 AGM batteries today. My back hurts.

They were $179 each at Sam's club but I don't have to water them any more. Worth it to me.

The batteries are made for Duracell by East Penn in central Pennsylvania.

I suggest measuring your current size and making sure the new batteries will fit if you change sizes.

I also suggest buying a battery carrying strap like the link shows. I got one today at NAPA. The batteries are pretty heavy and the strap helps a lot.

I would gladly pay $75 to have them installed. Those babies are heavy and not easy to get to.

2 GC2s will fit in the space of 1 4D battery, so you will have room for 4.

You will only need to add a short jumper between each pair of batteries. That creates 2, 12 volt pairs.Click image for larger version

Thanks ! So these 2 6V batteries were equal to 2 12V batteries ?

Thanks ! Thought that this might be the way to hook them up. I also need to hook up my inverter wire. Would that go on the + pos for the 12v ...top left battery in the diagram ?
