Need help on installing Dometic A/C

I'm putting a new Dometic air conditioner penguin 2 into my motorhome. I'm replacing a Coleman Mach. I'm need help how to hook up the thermostat wires. The Demetic air conditioner wire colors are red, red/white, orange and black. The Colaman Mach wires are yellow, grey, green, and blue. I need something to make it work?? Please HELP.

Do I need a Dometic thermostat to make it work? I currently have a Intellitec thermostat.

My feelings is you need to stick with the original manufacturer. On the newer units, they use a vendor specific wiring and thermostat. If you have the right wire run from the thermostat to the unit, you can probably trace out the wires and get them connected, but with another thermostat.

It will help if you listed the model numbers of the units. Also it will help people reviewing your post if you added a signature line at the bottom of each post with the model and year of your rig. You will find this under User CP ....menu bar in the upper left corner at the top of the page.

Many, if not all, of the Penguin 2 units being shipped these days use the multi-zone thermostat which is connected to the rooftop unit by "communication cable" (that is, phone wire) with what I assume are RJ-11 connectors on the ends. I was told by Dometic customer service that they had discontinued shipping models that used single zone thermostats. If you have one of those you are lucky!

One thing to bear in mind is that Dometic A/C's get their 12V from a wire going to the ceiling unit whereas most (all?) Coleman A/C's get their 12V from a wire going to the thermostat. You should be able to use the wire that originally passed 12V down to the thermostat to pass it back up to the new A/C.

Thanks for your advice.

I added my signature and hope I did it correctly.

We don't have the RJ-11.

Do you think we just need to order a Dometic thermostat?

What gets connected to the orange wire coming out of the AC. The orange wire is not labeled.

One other thing you could do is look for the installation manual of your old ac & thermostat (probably internet), then look at the instructions for your new unit. Maybe you can figure out the color wires
