Need to transport 2003 Mustang

Kids moving from Oregan to SoCal. Working details of how to help them move their stuff. They have a couple vehicles, one being a 2003 Ford Mustang with automatic transmission. Looking at options to tow it behind our MH.

Rent a U-Haul tow dolly - would have to remove the driveshaft, correct? Anything else to know here?

Rent a U-Haul car hauler trailer - basically load it up and go. Anything else to know here?

Other options:

Drive it - but we are short a driver for that.
Transport service - more expensive.
Other?

Thanks!

You have it covered. U-Haul will give you temp tail lights for the dolly and probably your best option.

With a car hauler, you're going to have more weight. So, make sure the hitch can handle it and you don't exceed ratings of the coach.

One last thought, figuring you are making this trip just to move the car, you may want to compute your fuel and travel costs. It *may* be a bit cheaper to have someone else do it.

If it were mine, I would opt for the trailer and load the mustang onto it. I did this from Texas to Florida, and it was a breeze. No transmission/driveshaft worries, and easy to back up if necessary. I hope this helps..

i gotta agree with this... driving a motorhome long distance just to move a car doesn't compute, other than the fun you will have (this statement is pretty much true of all motorhome related activities)

can your motorhome tow a big enough trailer so they don't have to rent a truck?
That frees a driver for the mustang, right?

imagining a step further.... if they are renting a truck, why not have them also dolly or trailer tow the mustang?
answer....cause you want to go with, of course.

so yes, rent either a dolly or a trailer, and take your motorhome on a drive!

Other: Craig's list for a driver. Some people hate to fly, or have an animal, and you might find someone that's going in your kids direction. I know you can get some real creepy people answering those ads so I put in mine that there would be a background check. And you can get a background check on-line for under $50.

Good suggestions and food for thought. Thanks!

Regarding the trip - transporting the mustang is not the primary purpose - other business and personal things are happening as well.

i have seen cars backwards on tow dolly ; no drive shaft issues. How about sell the car and buy another at destination?

I believe on a 2000 mustang with a manual tranny that I owned, the transmission fluid would dump out when the DS was removed. Not sure if the auto is the same way, but that's something to check into if u go the dolly route.
