New Owner Discovery 40G

Hello,
We are brand new to the RV Community. We purchased a used Discovery 40G from a private seller and I have a few questions. The inspection showed no issues, and so far so good. However, I am having trouble finding information about the following:

1. U-Shaped Dinette Table - the release was "sticky" and now it won't stay up. Do I have to replace the entire column assembly?

2. The unit has a single solar panel. I would love to learn anything about it. I can find plenty of information about RV solar systems, but nothing on the rig itself. Where do I check if it's functioning?

3. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the AV systems(s). We have the factory antenna, it seems to get a signal just fine, but I cannot select antenna on the TVs.

I am sure I will have plenty more questions, thank you in advance!

The solar panel is probably just to provide a small charge to one or more batteries. The one on our Bay Star is almost useless.

Hello,

2. The unit has a single solar panel. I would love to learn anything about it. I can find plenty of information about RV solar systems, but nothing on the rig itself. Where do I check if it's functioning? Our 40D has a 100W solar panel, yours should be the same. On our rig if you open the second from the rear basement door, right side, you will see the solar cell control circuit. Small box mounted on the back wall of the cabinet, it has LEDs that indicate what is happening with the battery charging.

3. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the AV systems(s). We have the factory antenna, it seems to get a signal just fine, but I cannot select antenna on the TVs. In order for the TV antenna to reach the TVs you must first turn off the cable TV selector. On ours the cable TV switch is located in the cabinet over the passenger seat. The green LED must be off.
I highly recommend you call Fleetwood Factory Service
800-322-8216 and ask for customer support. Give them the last seven digits of your VIN and they can email you, plumbing schematics and wiring schematics for your rig. Then join the Discovery Owners website.

I am sure I will have plenty more questions, thank you in advance!

Todd

Hi Todd! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined us!

Congrats on the new Discovery! There should be a control panel for the solar panel that shows the charge rate and the battery voltages. Have fun and keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Not sure of the year you have but we have a 2008 40X and it has a single solar panel on the front a/c unit, its to help keep the batteries charged. On the inside of the coach there is a small red light on the a/c filter panel and when itís lit it is charging the batteries.
Hope this helps and welcome to the club.

Made a mistake in my previous post. The TV antenna amplifier must be turned ON, Green LED ON, in order for the TVs to receive the TV antenna signals.

There may a " bomb".... box of many buttons that selects antenna , cable feed, vcr feed to each tv. The TVs should also have selection between antenna, hdmi, RCA jacks or component some depending age. Most antennas have crank up and rotate as well as powered boost.
The OEM panels are only good for few amp to chassis. Some systems will also have a relay that will switch between house and chassis . A few amp a few hour a day is not a lot on these large battery banks unless in no power storage and it may be better fully disconnect batts.

You didn't mention the year of your 40G, and that's important as things change from year to year even on the same model.

1. You can take the column apart and oil the release mechanism on your dinette pedestal. That may help with the grip when it raises and lowers.

2. Depends on the year of your coach. Some years the solar panel was wired directly to the house batteries, and other years it went through a controller (and those changed depending on the year).

3. REV has wiring diagrams for your AV system (and again, that changes depending on what year your coach is), as well as a lot of diagrams on many other systems on your coach. Such as, 12 volt electrical, 120 volt electrical, fresh water system, holding tank plumbing, etc. It's all yours just for asking. Give them a call or send an email, and they can email the schematics to you. Tell them you want the most popular system schematics, and they'll send you about 20 or so pdf files with exploded drawings and parts lists.

Add a signature line to your forum profile that includes the make model and year of your coach. This info will greatly affect your answers.
This is a good forum, lots of people with a great deal of experience with these rigs.
Welcome, and have fun!

PS I have a 2003 Discovery, the Solar panel back then was merely a Chassis Battery Maintainer, red LED on the AC return grill in the ceiling indicates it's charging.
