3X on the R F Mogul and Dish is great to work with and switch via the phone app to local channels.

Converted my Wineguard Traveler on our Class A from Direct to Dish last fall and very satisfied using Dish Outdoors/monthly pay as you go service. If you aren't traveling next month you just don't pay the bill and service stops. When you get ready to go pay it and service starts. When we move I just use my Dish app to switch locations and get local stations in about 5 minutes. Was never able to get Direct TV reps to grasp the concept of RV moving and getting local stations, and they would only let you suspend service once a year. Lastly, can't say enough good things about Wineguard customer service/tech support-never a bad experience.

Oh right ... changing to dish, and especially hd, I will need to learn a whole new set of satellites. That had always confused me ... and with directv getting the information was pretty obscure...

Why? With the traveler or even the portables like the tailgater, all you do is change the channels. The dish figures it all out for you.

Sounds lime there is a difference between east and west coast, with either a hardware or configuration change?

On DISH Network the Western Arc satellites (110-119-129) are visible over most of the USA except the upper Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states. In those states the 129 satellite elevation angle is so low that any moderate height object can block reception. Also DISH has moved a great many local channels HD to Eastern Arc satellites ( 61.5-72.7-77). The same thing happens in extreme southern Florida with the 129 sat and low elevation angle.
Basically east of the Mississippi River your best reception angles favor the DISH Eastern Arc satellites, west of the Mississippi the best reception angles favor the Western Arc satellites.

And to change from one arc to another you swap the pickups (forget what they are called) on the antenna?

They are called LNBs.

You cannot just swap them. The reflectors and the LNB arms are different.

I have the RF Mogul Eagle 2 installed and love it. I’m not sure what y’all do down there for TV at home but in the country (rural areas) most people use either Shaw’s, Bell or Telus tv via Sattelte. I can run up to 5 receivers off my home account so i just put one in the motorhome. The dish itself is erected and locates the Sattelte via the RF mogul hardware and once the satellite is locked ion, the Shaw Direct receiver takes over and i have the exact same channels i do at home with no more cost than my monthly Sat tv bill.

Not if you have the RF Mogul Eagle antenna, you just switch the LNB's for DISH Eastern or Western arc.

So ... once you get the antenna... you are forever stuck with one or the other sets of satellites? (If you get the winegard that is)

That is a neat system. Nice complex curve on the reflector to accommodate all the different satellites. It does look like the different LNB kits are at different focal points.

That is the way the units are from Dish.

The Mogul unit posted above seems to be the ticket if you want a permanent roof mounted unit.

We subscribed to Dish recently as our current coach came with a Trav’lr and a Wally. It works great at home but here in the PNW, we have yet to camp anywhere that isn’t engulfed in a giant evergreen canopy. I just raised the Traveler and turned on the Wally to update overnite as we are going camping tomorrow. Is that not something that needs to be done?
