I have my steer tires "trued" before they are mounted. Not having them out-of-round makes a huge difference. It was only 30 bucks!

CampDaven,
May I ask, where you got your tires trued? It's surely not a common practise any more. I've had it done on a couple of older trucks and one motorhome but, that was years and years ago. And you are quite correct stating that it makes one heck of a huge difference when you're rolling down the road on a "Round" tire.

It was Ruhl's Frame & Alignment Service, Ephrata, Pa.
have used them for MH alignment and such since 1992.
Bought the tires and had them mounted and beads put in, and went right to Ruhl's for align (was toe-in) and trueing.

I just thought of this while rereading the post. What if you have a flat in the front and you need to take a tire off the back for a spare. I wouldn't want an UN balanced tire then.

If you put beads in the spare, it is always ready!

Or use the Centamatics balancing disk which stays with the axle/hub.

I was also told that the rears were not normally balanced. They said they could do it but at the cost of the balancing, I found I could purchase mercury balancers that will work on any set of rear tires. I have Centramatic on both the front and the rear and I am very pleased with them. For the rear, you need just two (one for each side).
