New tires in the covid era....

Talked to a couple of tire installers in Florida about replacing my Fleetwood bounders tires. I’ve always been a Michelin man and would like to stay that way.
I did find my size thru one company that can send to an installer but the born on date is early 2018 for 6 tires. Yikes!
Otherwise, unavailable nationwide. Will Michelin ever catch up because of covid?
Talked Toyo tires and another Japanese brand, much “harder” tires and because I come from cold weather these tires will have a rough ride.
As was explained to me, these tires are meant for people driving too and from lower Midwest states to Florida to “sit” as many do.
Wait for Michelin to catch up? Anyone ever contact Michelin?
Thanks....

The person who “explained” who these tires were meant for should be ignored until further notice.

If you’re set on Michelins, ask them for a 40% discount on the 2018’s.

I replaced Michelins with Toyo's for a big savings and my wife's comment was "I think the ride is better". 2 1/2 years and 25,000 miles later, we couldn't be happier.

We just replaced our Michelin 235/80/22.5 with Toyo 245/75/22.5 with 2020 date code . First trip out was in freezing weather from near Birmingham AL. to Pigeon Forge TN. the day after Christmas And both my wife and I thought the ride was as good as with the Michelins . I know everyone has an opinion but I would not hesitate to recommend Toyo .

What a bunch of hogwash. Sounds like something a Michelin or Goodyear sales person would say.

But if you don't want a Toyo (made in USA, by the way), there are several other quality brands. What size do you need? Tire availability depends heavily on size because tires are made in big batches and warehoused for future demand. Sometimes the supply runs out before the next batch gets made, and sometimes low demand leaves tires in the warehouse a loonnng time, e.g. those 2018 tires.

I can give a big thumbs up for Toyo's! We just put on Toyo steer tires before this trip (5,000 miles already) we are on and they are a dream ride so far.

I replaced my 5 year old Michelin’s after a blowout with Toyo. Ride is much better than my last Michelin’s.

Yes. A bit of an inflated statement, for sure.

Well, I recently bought 8 new Michelins. Date code was a couple months old . Contact NTCS -- they are a fleet service and will give you a great deal and have fresh tires sent to a dealer near your location and arrange for installation. saved me big $'s over FMCA and Coachnet prices

Why would I pay $800 for a tire when my $300 each, ride, handle, and wear better? $1800 vs $4800, or $3000 savings per set.

Try Snider Fleet Solutions. They have several locations in FL. I have used them twice for coach tires in the Atlanta metro area where we live. And they are in the michelin/FMCA discount program, if you stay with michelins. Both times I bought from them, the tires were dated the same or previous month as purchase date. That was pre-covid, but I still bet you can get very recent tires - better than 2018-dated.

Put me in the group of folks that thinks your dealer was blowing smoke.

Regards.

Chuck
