New to RV living
I have a new Allegro RED 33AA motor coach and I have two questions to ask:
1. When leaving to go back home for the weekend, is it a good practice to retract the slide outs?
2. Also what about the gray water tank valve, should it be left opened all the time? Or should it be closed and dumped when the level gets high?
Thanks, Scott

When we had a seasonal site I would bring slides in when we would be away for awhile. Mainly we were under trees and wanted to minimize debris falling on the slide toppers.
In terms of black ang gray tank valves, keep closed until ready to dump. Dump black first then gray. That way the gray water rinses out your sewer hose. Try to wait until black is at least half full so that there’s enough volume to flush out the debris.

1. My slide stays out 4 months a year.
2. My gray has stayed open for 3 years.
3. I do close my Galley because of food debris.

Thanks for the response. There are no trees around the coach, but the way Texas weather is you never know when the wind will get crazy. May be best to retract them in when i leave for the weekend.

You can connect to sewer, leave the gray tank valve open. If your anal, close it a day before you plan to dump black tank. This will give you a slug of gray water to help flush black debris down the line and out of your hose. Slides open/closed? Depate that will rage for ever. The only downside of open I see is the extra wide open area at home and possible weather on the slide roofs.

I always retract slides when leaving for any length of time, keeps slide topper clean and out of wind, gray water valve open or closed doesn't really matter to me, but I normally close valve.

I go home every weekend. I keep my slides out unless there is a big storm coming. Close the gray and black slides. Also turn off the electric and the water.

Welcome to the forum. We always close the slides if away from the coach for more than a day.
We also keep both the Grey and Black and dump when needed even if at a FHU site. However if DW is doing a wash or two i will keep the grey open till she is done.
The learning curve is long but thankfully only steep in the beginning.
You are joining a good group of folks here with good info to share.
Enjoy the adventure!

Hi Scott! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!
Congrats on the new rig! I would leave the gray tank dump valve open. For just a weekend I would leave the slideouts extended. I would turn off the water at the spigot also. JMHO
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!
