New Owner
Just bought a 2005 40' Tiffin phaeton. What are some of the most haves to store in the basement? Ladder, hoses, tools?
What are must have items in a class A 40'

Welcome to IRV2. You'll get some great advice on that subject. I carry everything I think I'll need and then some as long as I don't exceed by weight limitations.

If your are talking diesel then a side radiator and slide out generator!
I just had two situations where having these items saved me hundreds in repair costs.

Most 40' Motorhomes will have them all or a place for them - like stackable washer / dryers. Still - the length isn't the determinant for must haves. That would be the DW.

Extra hose for those times when the first is not quite enough. Electrical adapters from 50A to 30A and to 20A plugs. Extension cord.
Don't take all your tools. Get a nice tool box and take some of the tools. A nice assortment of wrenches, screw drivers pliers, etc. Perhaps a battery operated drill.

For me
The things that I make sure I have:
6ft folding ladder
full size push broom
small tool kit/case
Funnel for oil
Funnel to trans fluid
batt power drill/screwdriver
extra fluids, 1qt of each.
caulk, outside and interior
and of course, the cell phone, the checkbook/debit card.

 Welcome to IRV2
A lot of good suggestions already.
The first thing I would buy is a good electrical surge guard to protect the coach from faulty electrical hookups.
Second would be a water pressure gauge and filter system for control and filtering the water before it gets to the coach.

Well here is an incomplete list, but what we travel with today.
-Extra serpentine belt for the engine
-Spare Fuel, Oil and Water filters
-Spare fan belt for the generator
-Spare generator oil drain plug
-Spare generator fuel line assembly
-Gorilla tape, duct tape, electrical tape
-12 volt fuse kit
-Large oil filter wrench for the main engine
-Small oil filter wrench for the generator
-Replacement bulbs for all 12 volt interior and exterior lighting
-Replacement clearance light lenses (amber and red)
-Silicone
-Engine Oil
-Transmission Fluid
-SCA's for coolant (yours may not require)
-Distilled water
-Boeshield T-9 anti-corrosion/lubricant for all of its great uses
-Optilube Summer Blend Diesel fuel treatment for enhancing the lubricity of ULSD (may not be required for your rig, mine is an old rig)
-Valvtect Microbiocide diesel fuel treatment
-303 Aerospace vinyl, leather and rubber treatment for tires, wipers, leather and vinyl surfaces
-Complete tool kit (sockets, crescent wrench, screw drivers etc.)
-Sears portable 150 PSI compressor for topping off tires with Milton truck chuck head.
-Milton Truck Chuck Air gauge
