Newbie to the RV world

Hello from NJ. Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself (Charlie) to the wonderful world of RV'ing.
Purchased a 2002 31 foot Tiffin Allegro and I'm very excited to get started. Any tips or help is appreciated.

Welcome Charlie! Best advice for someone just starting is read these various forums. iRV2 and TRVN. Follow and read, read, read. You will learn a lot. Also, try not to get discouraged as most of what you’ll read are problems because people are trying to get an issue resolved, so it makes it seem like motorhomes are nothing but a bunch of issues. It’s not really that way. They’re a great lifestyle and the RV people are a great bunch always willing to help out.
Since you have an older rig, and we don’t know anything about it, my offering is to search the forums about tires and batteries. Tires are usually good for 10 years max (don’t start on me everyone) and never let your batteries get below a 50% charge. That’ll shorten their lifespan. And as always....Safe Travels!

Welcome from NY. Two things for my two cents is go camping local till you get used to the rig and bring a pad with you to write down all the things you forgot or go camping with a friend to help you out. The second is load it up like you were going to go someplace and take it to a CAT scale and weigh your coach to make sure you have your tires properly inflated.
The rest is to enjoy it.

Congrats on the new rig! Keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Check the date code on the tires. Unfortunately if they are 10 years old even though they look good you need to replace. RV tires are based on age not by mileage.

Roadside assistance is a must

I highly recommend you get roadside assistance, particularly with an older coach. I'm with Goodsam and pretty happy with it, but there are others, including your own insurance company that may off it. I like Goodsam because it covers my toad too.

Welcome, I'll keep an eye out for you on the road.

Ask away. There are no dumb questions and on this forum someone will have an answer. Some may be the wrong answer but you can figure that out on your own.

Search this site for checklists, modify them for your rig and follow them closely for arrival and departure. It will save you more often than you think.

Okay, thanks. Still learning this app. Do you mean the pre-trip list? Any idea where I can find them?
