Newmar basement door latches

My first basement door latch failure has occurred and I expect more as you have to slam them so violently to close and seal.
Where are folks acquiring the new latches to sidestep the high mark up at Newmar?
Thanks for all input.

What year and model coach do you have?

I had a problem as you described some years ago, and found the solution to the problem. If you have the same style latch as my 2007 I can tell you a simple fix.

Not sure which latch you have. I also had one break internally.
Purchased a pair on eBay. Also had to get some matching paint.

The basement door latches were one of the reasons I didn’t purchase a Newmar. Seems silly but I test drove 2 Newmar’s at dealers and both had doors taped shut. Sorry I don’t have an answer for you.

On my 2007 Baystar I frequently have to remove the latch cover, tighten, loosen or spray lubricant on the latching mechanism.

I very seldom slam my compartment doors. Usually, I close them until the latch makes contact, then I lift the handle and press the door with my knee to seal, then release the handle.

You might try this method to save wear and tear on the mechanism.

What year and model Newmar? Vertical or horizontal doors? I have the vertical Basement doors and they close very easily. If you have not already looked, you might see about adjusting the latches. Can you disassemble the latches and see which part is broken?

If you are talking about the plastic guide piece, I made a few out of starboard using the original as a pattern. Pretty simple using a scroll saw and drill. Cost a couple bucks to make a few of them compared to the almost $50 newmar tries to get from you.

The Newmar latches are adjustable. Try adjusting them properly, versus slamming them. They have both an up and down and in and out adjustment.

Easy to adjust the latch catch on the inside of the compartments. We were initially told they were supposed to be that way - as in super tight and difficult to close. They just needed to be adjusted.
