Newmar Dutch vs Tiffin Allegro Bus

We are full timers in Colorado going from fifth wheel living to 40’ Class A diesel so we need a well insulated unit. We are seeing the Dutch Stars and Allegro bus getting good reviews. Has anyone had both and we would love to hear your comments on which is best. Used Dutch Stars seem to be hard to find also.

We have a 2013 Allegro Bus and are very happy with it in part because of great dealer support over the last 9 years. My son had a 2015 and 2016 Mountain Aire, one step up from the Dutch Star. When we were dry camping together, I noticed two differences. During a 90 degree day, his AC units ran less than ours to keep the inside @ 75 degrees. Also during a brief thunderstorm, the MA was quieter inside than our AB. This tells me the Newmar is better insulated than the Tiffin, at least the model years we had. I should add that I have had far fewer product issues with my Bus than Scott had with his MA. He finally sold it.

We have a new 2022 Tiffin Allegro Bus 40 IP, our best friends have a new Newmar Dutch Star. They have pluses and minuses to both, goes down to floor plan and personal preferences. This is out third Tiffin. Tiffin has more outside storage, more inside cabinet storage. Newmar has slightly better insulation and proprietary electronic steering. I think the electronics in the Tiffin is better (Spyder control panels throughout the coach), and Tiffins proprietary Powerglide Chassis is terrific. Can’t go wrong with either. I prefer the Tiffin, my friend prefers his Dutch Star.

We’ve had three Newmar’s and are happy with our choices. We have friends with Tiffin’s and they’re happy with their choices. I don’t think you can go wrong with either coach.

We have a 40' Phaeton with three A/Cs like the Allegro Bus. We were in 103 degree weather last week and had no problem keeping the coach at 73 degrees. The front A/Cs ran most of the time during the heat of the day, but I was well pleased with the cooling. I agree that either brand will be a great choice and it all comes down to the floorplan you can live with.
