Newmar vs. Foretravel
We are currently looking at a 1997 Foretravel with 325 Diesel Cummins and a 1996 Kountry Star with gas engine. It has the Power Pack added. Which is the better one? And why? Thanks. This would be our first purchase and we want to do it right. The Kountry Star has one slide. Both are about the same length.

Comparison?
About FORETRAVEL: My knowledge is just from reading a lot about FORETRAVEL and I drive a small NEWMAR myself.
Both are very good companies, but FORETRAVEL is a different Coach.
A lot stronger and can't be compared to NEWMAR. That is my opinion. You see a lot of older FORETRAVEL coaches on the road.
Whatever coach you buy, you will enjoy it.

Assuming the foretravel is not more than 4 times the price of a gasser, it would be the choice for me. I would miss the slide tho.

The Foretravel has a much heavier duty chassis, suspension, transmission, etc. And was a much more expensive rig to begin with, so probably has amenities the gas Newmar does not. And then there is the gas vs diesel angle too, which you can review by searching on that subject. It's been argued ad nauseum here.
Frankly, I'd choose the one that suited my needs the best rather than trying to pick on the basis of brand.

If you were picking between a Newmar DP & Foretravel DP it would be a harder choice.
The Fords of that era could not support the Newmar coach I had two and one had to add leaf springs all around and the other one I installed Air Lift air bags all around.
I would take them both for a ride than compare.

I'd take the Foretravel over the Newmar any day.

Having never owned either, but having looked at and read about both, I think Gary gave you some very good advice- go with what suits your needs the best, that way you won't go wrong!

Of those two the Foretravel. It is a FAR better coach. Here are my reasons. Rear motor is way more comfortable to drive on the highway than front motor. Much quieter. Air ride as opposed to UPS truck suspension. But then the Foretravel brand is likely the best production line of motor homes made. So it is really a Cadillac vs Ford comparison. And in now way am I negative on Newmar, which is another very good brand. But the Foretravel was much more expensive new. MUCH more.
That said I would choose neither of them. I would find a diesel pusher with at least one slide or two. I really like Foretravel motor homes, but I would not buy a motor home without a slide or two. Really two. For the same price as the Foretravel you can find a Beaver, Monaco, Country Coach, or American Coach with two slides at the same price as the Foretravel.
