I had a situation very similar to Blandry and very happy to say no damage but sure could of been. I can hear my steps come in but a person can forget. The light idea is a sure winner as far as I am concerned.

I guess for some it may be necessary, for some it may not. But another visual safety device is always a good idea in my book. Now can somebody tell me how to turn off all the other da*#$ed audibles?

The positive wire to the led was short and run trough a fuse. The ground wire was run back to the step. I used a normally closed magnetic reed switch at the steps. I used a power source that was hot when the ignition switch is on. The led was from Walmart. It is red and about the size of a nickel. It is very bright. It is a marker light. I have decided to also run a second ground wire to the emergency brake. The emergency brake light is on the dash and very hard to see. If I run a second ground to the wire to the led it would find ground and light the led if the park brake is on. The parking brake on my coach is on the transmission and can damage the transmission if driven with the brake engaged. One light with two ground sources makes it simpler. If the light is on, check the steps. If they are in, check the brake. I would love to provide pictures but I am computer illiterate.

The step will not retract as a result of it's contact with the curb.It will, however, stop until the step is retracted,at which point it just returns to it's retracted position. The step is designed to just stop when it encounters an abnormal resistance. To reassure yourself just put your foot against the step as it goes out and the step will just stop with no harm done.
