Norcold Icemaker N842IM not making ice, but strange...

I just defrosted my Norcold freezer (with my hairdryer) because I heard the ice cubes struggling to come out. There was a buildup of ice, so as always, I got my hairdryer out and melted the ice until it came off the sides. I have to do this regularly because it seems like as soon as I get it defrosted, it starts to frost up again. I also ensure to direct the hairdryer toward the water inlet just in case it has iced up.

As soon as things started to defrost, the "old" ice cubes came out and the ice cube tray refilled with water. However, I just checked to see if there was ice to use (24 hours later) and nothing except for a strange icicle shaped piece of ice in the container and a few melted-refrozen-ice-cube blobs at the bottom of the container.

I noticed the metal arm looked strange...it was down, but the side that goes into the electronic panel, looked like it was pulled out a bit? Kind of? Not sure. I tried to "reseat" the arm, then lifted it up and back down again to reset it. I don't hear it making any noise now. Not sure if it's toast, or if the temperature needs to drop again to begin the cycle again, or I need to check something else I'm missing.

***Full disclosure, my freezer is usually completely full and it is completely possible that something bumped the metal arm out of its hole/socket, but I can't be sure.***

I've read the other posts on ice makers, but I'm not seeing any of the same problems and I really don't want to rip this thing apart. I noticed that the people mentioning the Lowe's replacement icemaker and the YouTube videos with the replacement instructions, the icemakers look like they are bigger than the factory installed icemaker.

Any info is much appreciated. Thanks!

The icicle shaped piece of ice probably came out of the water supply line.

Pull the icemaker and look at the transition from the 1/4 supply line and the bigger "chute" that directs the water into the ice tray. An ice dam can form there.

Rapid frosting can be from bad door seals. Maybe your overpacking is holding the door open a little?

Norcold Icemaker N842IM not making ice, but strange...

Thanks, bentjm. I shoved my finger in the hole of the chute and didn't feel anything, but suddenly and without explanation, the ice started to come up out of the tray and now it's working. SMH. I have no idea what the deal is, but the was a head scratcher.

Mine used to freeze up and create an ice dam there once a year or so.

The tray has a heater to melt enough ice to release the ice.. Could it be that you are filling the try with to much water?? There is a fill water adjuster under the lid on the left side. I'm traveling or I would sent info on how to adjust the water level. As someone mentioned. Your teflon could be corroded off and it will make it very difficult for the ice to release.
