OBD Scanner for Freightliner Chassis

Any recommendations for an OBD scanner. Coach is a 2019 American Coach Dream with Cummins 605. I tried the search function without any luck. Thanks.

The LBCU (light bar control unit) on my 2013 Freightliner chassis provides some diagnostic codes. Not sure about your model.

What Fiesta48 said.

You do not have an OBD port. It is probably J1939 protocol.

He probably has a Deutsch 9 pin round connector if a newer diesel.
And that is considered and "OBD" (On Board Diagnostics) port.

It's just not an OBDII port (1996 Plus Gas).

Yeah, but when someone posts OBD port, the great majority of people think OBDII.

So sidestepping the definition of OBD, can anyone recommend a code reader for the current model Freightliner chassis? I’ve found these a valuable tool for the toolbox in my truck and would like to be prepared in the coach. Are any of those on Amazon any good.

And there is an adapter sold to convert from the Deutsch J1939 plug to OBD2.

I don't know if this one is any better quality, but it's 4X the price.

I got Nexas Heavy Duty Truck Scan Tool NL102 Plus Auto Scanner couple years ago based on recommendations here.
I have not used it yet however, so I can't personally say how good that might be.

I would think it does a lot more than Scangauge D which is meant to be mounted on the dash for continuous monitoring. The drawback on that seems to be that you can only monitor 4 items at a time.

Regardless of what you get, just make sure it's compatible with a Diesel.

I bought this - FCAR Heavy Duty Truck Code Reader F506 Enhanced Full-Systems OBD2 Scan Tool

Haven't used it yet, so don't know how good it will end up being.
