Oh the timing!

We've been researching class A rigs for close to 18 months now in anticipation of purchasing something in March of 2020. Sold our fifth wheel that we had for close to 12 years in Feb and were marching toward a Fleetwood Bounder 35K. To keep within our budget we were looking at 2017-2018's and we were narrowing the field. And then COVID-19 hit!

Obviously we hit the pause button trying to see when this will all end. One of the sales guys we had been in communication with reached out to see where we were out in our purchasing window. We told him we're going to see how this all plays out over the next month or two and then decide. But then, just the other day, he was offering a crazy deal on a 2020. While we don't have this in writing, he was suggesting he could get us the 2020 for the price of a 2017 or 2018 used. At the price he 'suggested' it would be 46% off MSRP!

I am acutely aware of what a fair price is for the Bounder 35K's ranging from the 2016 - 2020 model years and this price is insanely good.

It has me questioning is it worth the gamble to save HUGE on the new unit? We have a pretty good down payment but would certainly need financing to make the purchase.

And the gamble is the economy goes down the toilet, we lose our jobs and cant get rid of our rig. Not really a question in here for the group...just my musings on the issue.

Stay safe all!

Get in writing and then if really want it do it. If you can get to the dealer to actually see it in person first I would do so and if not have them drop it off, but tell them you it completely ready for camping, full of fuel, propane, and water. Then hopefully you have the space at home, set it up and live in it for a few days and test everything. Make sure you make a good list of all that needs fixing and have them pick it up and fix those things while under warranty.

Pull the trigger and enjoy

Only you can answer that question.... it depends on the stability of your jobs, and your personal financial situation.

This will all pass... I believe sooner than later...

I'm one of those that believes there was a major over reaction. I believe the politicians made decisions based on poor, inaccurate prediction models, unfair comparisons with other countries readiness & responses, and yes, a good old dose of political motivation.....

Be that as it may, I think our country did a fantastic job of stepping up to the plate.... medical supplies are in the pipeline, treatments are on the fast track & showing promise, the vaccine is on a fat track, most places of the country are ready for the "spike", and the vast majority of people now have a good idea how to keep themselves as safe as possible..... The reality is that we are in a much better position now, than anyone else in the world, to deal with this pandemic.. I believe things will soon head back towards normal, with the caveat that high risk groups need to maintain their vigilance until the vaccine is released..

If your situation is such that you can get through this while maintaining financial stability.... It's a good time to deal for a big discount...

It's not an easy decision, when predicting the future is involved, but good luck with your decision...

Back in 2008 I thought my job was secure. We had been looking for a used Class A DP and in Nov we found a great deal and after contemplating we took the dive. We had been on vacation, on the first day back to work I took my lunch break to do a wire transfer for the down payment. Got back to work with a note on my desk about a meeting at 3PM, all senior managers attended and we were told the operation was going on care and maintenance. Yikes.

We went through with the purchase, I ended up loosing my job in March but decided what the hell, we planned a trip to Alaska. Things worked out but still trying times.

Only you can determine if buying a new motorhome is a good move. You have to weigh the risk and reward.

Good Luck

I will actually be keeping my eyes open if another deal comes along like the last one I may pursue it.

I know how you feel. I too am planning to purchase a new class A in the coming months and have all kinds of new questions about availability, financing and the delayed roll out of the new models with the 7.3 liter and suspension upgrades. I bought my first class A in 2008 and had to sell it in 2010 after a job lose.

I know this will end in a month or two, but only you know your profession and how it might be affected in the long run. I say if your jobs is secure, and you’re financially able, go for it. I don’t think the economic down turn from Covid-19 will be anything like things were ten years ago.

Do RV dealerships really do this these days?

I mean.......... deliver a fueled up, gassed up, watered up RV right to your house so you can camp in it a few days to figure out whats broke and decide if you like it? Before you pay for it in full?

Maybe I’m confused.

When I took delivery of my rv 13 years ago, it was full gas, water and propane. Same for my new 2020 trailer, full propane and water ready to go. Only difference is they didn't deliver them. Doubt they would deliver without a PDI and signed consent of no damage and everything working.

And if they balk at delivering it...have them set it up on their property and go live there for a few days. There's a dealership in central Indiana that has an adjacent campground area offering a few free nights for new purchases so you can get any questions answered right there...

Used units have had most of the bugs and poor workmanship issues worked out and failing equipment replaced.

Many new MH's sell for 30 to 35% discount so 40% might be expected since the industry may be approaching panic mode since they're likely to lose 3-4 months of prime selling time this year.

Businesses are adapting quickly to this. Camping world is offering a delivery service where everything is done remote except the last step in which they deliver the RV to your doorstep.

Yeah, nothing wrong with buying a several hundred thousand dollar item sight unseen and relying on an immoral salesman and an industry rife with incompetent workmanship. Caveat emptor.

And these same people will be here whining in a few months.

Not saying I don't agree with you but thought it was relevant to some of the other posts in this thread.

At "46%" off of a new 2020; I would think you need to at least go visit the Dealer & find out! Before going though, I would tell the salesman that this better not be a "ploy"; because if it is, you're walking out, & they will never sell you anything! Use a bit of "fear factor" with him. Once you get there, check it out completely, make them go over figures, & no "hidden charges"! And if it is "legit", you have a big decision to make!
And only you know what your financial situation is, so make a decision accordingly!
Best of Luck!
