After a couple of busy seasons I finally got around to sending some fluid samples in for analysis. I chose JG Lubricant Services and sent in some engine oil, transmission fluid, and coolant. I took the oil sample from the old oil right after I changed it. I managed to siphon some transmission fluid and some coolant with some small diameter tubing, using a fresh length of tubing for each task. I got the results back and they seemed pretty good but I decided to call the company for some further insight. The company's owner, Tom Johnson, took my call and spent a good deal of time walking through the results and explaining them to me. In an earlier life Tom worked for Allison and was very familiar with my particular transmission fluid, which gave me a lot of confidence that he knew what he was talking about.
Ultimately, I now know my engine and transmission are both in very good condition and I have a baseline to compare future test results to. My coolant indicates it would benefit from a change, but certainly not urgent so I'll get to it after this year's travels. Overall, I am glad I finally got it done. If you've been thinking about oil and coolant analysis, I would encourage you to do it.

Agree with you, Worked on big ships all my life and most major companies use oil analysis for predictive maintenance, as well as current engine condition.

We've had our motorhome serviced by Rush Trucks since ownership. They do analysis on all fluids when serviced. It's like a blood test and good to know. The last report 84K said engine showing signs of breaking in and consider extending oil change service interval. Can't beat it for early warnings.
