oil temp buzzer

I have 96 American Dream DP with the 8.3 Cummins ISC. In the last couple of weeks it's started the warning beeper when the oil temp gauge gets over half. I'm unsure what the actual temp is when it sounds but the gauges bottom reading is 140 and the top is 320. The "red zone" is at the 320 mark but the buzzer goes off at half way. I changed the oil, it was due anyway, but that made no difference. I've just been pulling over to let it cool when it happens but it makes no sense.

Does anyone have any idea what's up?

Thanks in advance.....

I don't have your type of engine, but....... Does the oil temp gauge spend any time at its "normal" reading before rising? What does the coolant temp say? If the gauge is anywhere near linear, you're getting the trigger at somewhere near 230-240. If the oil's that hot, the coolant ought to be warm also. Does the oil pressure drop at all as the oil temp supposedly rises? Oil temp ought to be a fairly straightforward system; sounds like either the sensor or the gauge is getting hinky. If all other indications are normal, I'd bet on the sensor.

You do not have an ISC unless the rig was re-powered.

If you have the mechanical C8.3 it is simply a sensor issue based upon the gauge reading.

Take it to Cummins, replace the sensor.
