Older Baystar 3406 vs brand new Winnie Adventurer 35f

I have two potential deals : need input pls :

I was sold and ready for a 2018 Baystar 3406
Comes with warranty and solar
V10 gas
Bunkhouse
2 heat pumps
Gorgeous
A plus inspection and dealer but far away and have to make a long terrible winter drive to her home.

Then I test drove 2023 new Adventurer 35f anniversary edition.
V8 gas
Bath and a half
Bunk over cab automatic
Washer dryer
Smart TVs
Fireplace
Gorgeous layout
More bang for buck

I just love Newmar but now I'm conflicted as the pricing on both the above is close within 10k or due to my local dealer if Winnie wanting it gone

What would y'all do if u were me?

Bath and half can be great if that is what you want or need but realize that is also at least another 10 plumbing connections that can fail: each end 3 water lines and 2 sewer lines. It can be more than that if they use Ts in the lines running fore / aft to plumb the 1/2 bath. Some of those will likely be hidden in a relatively inaccessible location.

The V10 is relatively reliable, but less powerful than the new V8 which has had some issues, but later years may be getting better. Note that the 2023 coach may have motor built in 2022. Check the build date on the chassis sticker. While checking stickers, check the OCCC on the Adventurer and make sure it will meet your needs as some Winnebago models can be short on CCC (Vista NPF for example).

Think about who is providing the warranty on the used coach and is there a quality local place that can and will do the fixes under that warranty? Are there maintenance records for the Baystar?

Before buying the new coach get a quality 3rd party inspection. It has been sitting on a lot for over a year. If it was not well maintained during that time it could have serious issues. It might be sitting there because other buyers had inspections that found serious issues and left it there.

If both coaches check out well and are well maintained, I would lean towards getting the floorplan you like better. Features like solar can be added later, but a W/D can't really be added to that Baystar model.

Personally, I would choose the Newmar. I have a Newmar class a and a Winnebago class b. I’ve experienced enough to know I’m done with Winnebago. Fit, finish, quality of materials and components are sub par.

Probably you’ll be most satisfied with the one that has the floorplan & features that work best for your use. It sounds as if you plan to have kids along part of the time because you mentioned bunkhouse & over cab bed. I don’t have any direct experience with an electric over cab bed, but in general I have found features that transform the use of space inside the motorhome to be annoying. You tire of constantly converting back and forth and they end up not getting used all that much. When the cab-bed is lowered, you can’t turn around the captains chairs and use them as seating, for example. Advantage bunkhouse.

The Newmar is definitely a higher end, better built motorhome. It’s a step up from a Winnie. That said, I’m shocked that a 7ish year old Newmar is priced in the vicinity of a new Winnebago. I would expect it to be less costly as every component now has 7 years of use. Out of curiosity, how does a new Baystar compare to the Winnie price wise?

I do like the new V8 engine and chassis. Fireplace is nice on chilly mornings too. Washer/dryer is great for longer stays, assuming you’re in a full hookup campground.

The price will be about. 15k max difference as they want the Winnie gone .....so I'll never get a better price then now on adventurer but it has sat for 2.5 years. The Newmar is older but hasn't sat: driven vs low miles?
I'm just so torn as I can see the trim cheap issues already on Winnie ....but it has a bigger floor plan and local dealer and more bells and whistles .

Yes records for the baystar
It was originally bought from same dealer selling it as customer upgraded
Its mint condition and only three small work orders in its history.

Based on what you’ve told us the Baystar seems grossly overpriced. I did a quick scan through RVTrader.com. In the US market (and US dollars….) a 2018ish Baystar is an approximately $100K motorhome. A used 2023 Adventurer 35F is $140k to $150k. And new 2023 35F are also available, asking prices are around $175K.

Based on what I find the Baystar should be priced at about 60%-70% of the Adventurer. So either it’s too high or the Adventurer is too low…

And you really don’t want to pay any premium for the New 2023 over what they are bringing in the used market. The instant you sign the papers it’s a used 2023 and valued the same as the other used ones. Yes it has very low miles (but many of the used 2023 for sale in the US have 5,000 miles or less - hardly driven at all) and a warranty, but those two things are worth a 1% or 2% premium over a clean used unit, if that.

Shop a accordingly.

Thanks for that info!
Canadian prices are a little higher but I am using JD power to give me the right figures , especially since it's off season right now.
And ur right the prices between the two are different but both manageable and not as far apart as they should be based on the 2023 pricing to get it off the lot!

The Baystar is now a 7- to 8-year-old rig. For maintenance, how often has the brake fluid, rear end oil, engine coolant etc. been done? At 8 years you should be looking for brake service, calipers, master cylinder, brake controllers, boosters etc. and brake hoses, In addition to tires these are all becoming aged components. Don't forget engine belts and hoses. I'm not sure of the pecking order. I think neither is the top of line gas coach offering for their brand. Values similar? Compare list pricing for each for the year to determine the "tier". At 8 years probably should be near 1/2 price.

Hello, MelissaRV.
My bride and I are full-timers in a 2018 3414 Newmar BayStar. We compared with Winnie and Tiffin before our purchase and it was, hands-down, Newmar. Pick the one that meets your needs... bells and whistles are often more of a headache if you don't need them. The V10 gas engine is proven and provides almost the same power as the new V8 (which is still experiencing some issues). We drive the Western U.S. without issues. Quality is, again, hands-down, Newmar. Changing brake fluids, diff fluids, etc. is going to be an issue on any vehicle. "Take care of the horse." Again, pick the unit that meets your specific needs.

Yes it will be a Newmar but now I'm looking at the bath and half gas models too and wondering the difference between the 3309 and the 3629...any advice on those models? I'm looking a few years old .
