Older MH tube TV to widescreen DIY
New to me 2007 Itasca Sunova. Love it but hated the obstructing view of the tube TV. So I fab’d my own design. I have only seen you tubers remove and replace without cutting out metal shroud. So I thought I would share.
Hope this helps.

Very nice job!! When we removed the boat anchor in our Winnebago Adventurer we just kept the framing and placed the TV in front, came out pretty good. I toyed with your concept but couldn’t get myself to hack out what almost seemed like structural framing.
I assume you used a die grinder? Loud, messy job I bet. Again, nice job!!

Looks good!
We did something similar on our Newmar. TV box looked just like yours. It is not structural except for holding the large heavy tube TV’s.

The frame of the tube tv was spot welded to the structure. So I didnt mess with the integrity of the MH structure. All I had to do was cut the side metal of the tube tv frame and then work the base of the mount up and down unil the spot welds popped.

Seeing yours I now want to take the curtains down and add roller shades. Its amazing how much the tube TV took away from the view. Not anymore!

You are giving me some great ideas. When we got our 2002 it just had a big hole where the tv used to be. Since we have a large flatscreen on a lift in the living area we no longer needed a tv over the dash area.
With so many projects to do all I did so far is get some felt and stuffing and made a board along with a do-dad from Hobby Lobby. Still have to trim it out though.

Did that some years ago in our 2002 DSDP. Present rig we bought in 2015 and it already had flat screens but I've replaced all 3 with Smart TV's now

That's a very nice job, congrats!!
I guess I'll tackle that task in my MH, one day...or not. We barely use the old tube TV. And when we do, we kind of like the retro feeling of it.

I like it. I feel lucky ours only had a 13" tube TV to deal with. That old TV must have been a monster!

Yep,
Went through all of that about a couple years ago. The Sony boat anchor that was in there weighed right at 108 lbs. Since the steel framing was built for the support of that monster was not needed, and the new Smart Samsung 32" I was gonna install, which weighs a whopping 8 lbs, I determined the steel framing was not needed. That also meant I could toss the huge plastic tub that hung down behind the original TV. TV is not a priority for us when camping but, if and when needed, it sure is nice to have a more advanced and considerably better picture, along with all the nice features of a modern TV available.
So, it took me a couple hours and three different metal saws to surgically remove the unneeded hardware. Waaaaaaaaaay cleaner. I modified the face frame of the original TV to fit the new Samsung. I really don't like the looks of a TV that doesn't appear the factory did the work so, I form-fitted the new one into place. It took a bit of wood carving but, it came out pretty good. Yeah, it's only a 32" but, weigh big enough for me and the CEO to view from either side of the coach.
Scott
P.S. You see a larger center speaker just above the new TV because, the original Winne/Itasca *make believe* surround sound system was completely removed and an entire new receiver and base system was installed. And that meant a new center speaker since about 80%-90% of the *Voice* of TV broadcasts originates from that center speaker. so, a new one was installed. I installed a new base amplifier to handle the two original base speakers in the coach. Now, the sound in that system simply destroys the original junk puny sound the factory installed.
