Onan 10K Fuel Filter Replacment Hours

My Onan manual states 100 hours on both oil and fuel filter changes. The 100 hours seems rather short based on my experience with other Diesel engine fuel filters.

What hour interval are you using out there? I am staying with the 100 hour oil change as the generator gets a workout usually in very hot weather.

Thanks

We change fuel, oil, and air filter along with oil change once a year. Currently at NAWS China Lake, CA.

ONAN 10K generator.

I agree the 100 hours between oil & oil filter changes seems quite short.

The owner's manual I have for my 2007 model Onan Quiet Diesel 7500 watt generator show oil & oil filter changes every 150 hours and fuel and air filter changes every 500 hours. I mostly use my generator for LSU football weekends in hot, dusty conditions so I religiously following the 150 hour oil/filter change frequency and change air and fuel filters each August.

My owner's manual (attached) shows oil & oil filter change for a 2007 Onan Quiet Diesel 10,000 watt generator to be 250 hours (or at least once per year). The 500 hour timing to change air and fuel filters is the same for all Onan Quiet Diesel generators per the manual (see page 23).

Hope this info helps!

Very helpful and I really thought it was odd mine showed up at being the same interval for the oil change. Oil change I will do on 100 for a time yet. My little JD Skid Steer has nearly the same engine and the oil change interval on it is 500 hours which is interesting.

Going to definitely let the fuel filter go the 500. Air filter has been very clean so will do the 500 as well.

Thanks

The Onan 10K & 12.5K QD generator fuel filters are the same filters used on the 1985 Chevy 6.2L diesel engines. You can get the Chevy version for around $10. Lots cheaper than the Onan version.
You can also cross reference the glow plugs from Cummins to NGK 5392 Y720U and they are 1/4 the cost.

I use the car equivalency theory. 1 hour at 50mph. So, for oil, 6000 miles to 7500 miles is not unreasonable. That's around 120 to 150 hours. Fuel filters are a bit of a crap shoot because you can't predict fuel quality .... 15000 miles equivalent would be around 300 hours. Time can be a factor but my genset gets used.
