Onan genset problem

I have a HDKAJ, 7.5 that will not start. before i put it away for the winter i took out the house batterys, then the start batterys. when out to start it only put the start batterys in & the engine started fine, started the genset it ran for about 2 minutes then shut off, will not even turn over now, and the power light won,t even come on to show a code. Do the house batterys need to be in place to keep it running. New at this so any help would be very much appreciated,
thanks

Most generators have to have a load on them to continue running. Removing the house batteries would interupt the circuit causing it to shut down if there is no other load.
There would be no power so you would not get a code.
