Cool Onan Marquis 5500

Onan 5500 Marquis Gold would start and run for 7 min. or so, then shut down. Everyone contacted said it was the carb, so bought a new carb, exact same problem as with the old carb! What's next?

Now I am hearing it is the fuel pump!

Had the same problem, if was the fuel pump over heating. Would start and run fine then stop with an error code.. They had some bad fuel pumps. Also removed one of the two fuel filters, it was part of the reason it was over heating the fuel pump. Found fuel pump on Amazon.

Assuming you checked things like fuel, fuel filter (originally there were two, but one was deleted/bypassed). Here is the pump i installed.

For the last two years no problems. My generator would stall while the RV was moving.

Fuel pump will cause same/similar symptom. Also ensure the oil level is full to the tippy top, not just the full mark. It can inadvertently shut down thinking low oil level. I have been here with both these issues on a 5500.

Our last MH had that same generator and had the same problem. The fuel pump went bad in 5 days, installed a new one that one lasted about a year.
Went to Napa Auto Parts bought fuel pump with the same pressure, installed it sold the MH 10 years later and never had another problem.

When I bought my MH 2 years ago I serviced the generator before I even started it. I was going to change the fuel filter but the only source I found at the time for the filter was ONAN. I removed the filter, threw it in the garbage and installed a nipple in the filter's place. Then I cut a section of line out of the fuel line between the fuel tank and the fuel pump and installed a filter ahead of the pump. NAPA 3011. This filter sells for just about $4.00. The ONAN replacement was around $30.00.
Now the pump gets filtered fuel as well as the carb and the filter takes only a couple minutes to change. I also bought a spare fuel pump as I had heard they can be a trouble source. Good insurance IMO. I haven't needed it yet! LOL
