Onan Marquis 5500 generator 2001

I have a Fleetwood flair 30H, and I do have a Onan 5500 Marquis.

(Not gold)

It is very hard to start, is capable to power everything but not the air condition, I believe does not run enough RPMs to generate power, I guess needs a new carburetor, if anyone has the same problems please let me know I truly appreciate it, if you know any videos how to install a carburetor it will be great, I tried to find one on Amazon, aftermarket just to give it a shot.

There is a kit to get rid of the gas filter in your picture. A new carb may already have it. That filter and line have caused fires.

There is also one on the fuel pump that should be changed.

Take care if that first and see what happens.

When starting it, do you hold the start switch to stop for 30 seconds to prime it up ? You should.

If that doesn't help with starting, you may have a bad choke. That may not be part of the carburator.

I replace it everything besides the pump and carburetor, how about spark plugs? How many cylinders? I just see one spark plug.

Download a copy on the owners manual, it helped me out.

Take it apart and clean it. It will be much better than an aftermarket carb.

I had similar symptoms, after running a couple of minutes carefully touch each cylinder.
If one is cool or cold, it's not firing and so is running on one cylinder only, makes it hard to start , the engine stops if generator load gets to high when AC is on.

I believe I also had a code indicating wrong RPM. My problem turned out to be the intake valve rocker arm was broken on that cold clinder. Easy to access valve/ rockers, remove rocker covers, replaced rocker and adjust. In my case I had already replaced spark plugs.

Great answer

I do have plans to remove the unit to be able to have easy access, I'll find out that's what I do at Cummins as a starting procedure, what is inside of the compartment is kind of hard to identify problems.
But my first step is going to be basically cleaning the carburetor.
I found a great video, I wish I know how to post it.

check 1st to see if getting enough fuel. The critters love to eat the fuel line that goes over the fuel tank and the gen will suck air. you can only check the fuel line to tank connection with a remote camera
