Onan Marquis 5500 Starting problem

I have a 2005 Winnebago Adventurer 35U with the Onan 5500 marquis Generator. It ran last fall but when I tried to start it the other day, It wouldn't turn over the Lights dimmed and it just clicked it was like the starter was seized. Would this probably be the problem, I don't think the engine would be seized. 497 hours on it.

Sounds like a low battery. Make sure any disconnect switches are turned on. Start the engine, wait a short time to give it time to start charging the house battery and then try.

Dead battery most likely. Does Chassis start ? Ours will only start if Chassis battery is charged.

If the chassis batteries will start the engine press the Aux Start button while pressing the generator start button. After a few hours of run time the coach batteries may be charged up enough to start the generator on their own, or need to be replaced.

What type of fuel does it use?

When unplugged from power, if your 12v lights won't come on or are VERY low & your generator won't start, I'm thinking low house battery voltage. That's the 1st sign our house batteries were shot last fall. Our generator gets it power from the house batteries. Depending on the mfr, it could get its power from the chassis battery.

Sounds like a low battery however I did have to replace the starter on mine. One more thing I found about the Marquis Gold people seem to have a lot of problems with the controller getting hot and throwing codes. I found that there is air flow in the back of the controller box from the fan but once the air enters it has now where to go. I drilled two half in holes in the from of the box just below the breakers and you now can feel the cool air coming out. No more problems with the controller over heating.

If you have not tried the emergency start yet, check battery monitor for house charge, if low, Start the chassis motor, let run a few minutes, push emergency start and put something under the opposite side of the switch to hold it on. Wait ten minutes and then try the Gen start again, also could hold stop side of the start for a minute, this should run the fuel pump, then try the start. It may take some cranking. So crank for 15 seconds and let the starter cool then try again. Let us know what happens.
