Onan quiet 7500 Diesel generator

Hi all. I'm attempting to set up my generator to automatically turn on if I lose shore power.

I have an energy command 30 to control the generator.

I'm plugged into a 50amp shore power. When I go out of manual mode into auto the generator starts right up instead of sitting idle until I lose shore power.

Any ideas why that might be happening?

Thanks!

Marc,
Sorry I can't help with your Genset problem, but certainly like to know how to do that as well.
We are also sitting in Katy.

Have you tried going auto with no shore power then plug in shore power. In really new to motor homes and generators but it almost sounds like it needs a reset so to speak. Only a thought

Onan quiet 7500 Diesel generator

Hi Arby. We are in an RV park off of Morton and Fry Rd.

I'm thinking it might have something to do with the battery voltage being low. I'm not sure why it would be low since it's been plugged into shore power the entire time we've been here. But we came home this afternoon to find the shore power off because my surge protector shut down saying that the 50 amp receptacle had overheated. I did not find any problem with the receptacle so I'm not sure about that one. Whether it was a fluke or did actually overheat.

That's a good thought and may be a good way to troubleshoot this issue. Thanks

We lost power yesterday as well. Finally traced it to a weak breaker at the initial pole.
How long will you be in Katy? We are at a private residence Katy Hockley Rd and Clay.

Ahh. You're not too far from us. We are actually leaving tomorrow. Katy is our home base. We're heading north to Toronto for 6 weeks.

Perhaps when you get back we can get together. Have a great time in Toronto.

Suggest you download a copy of the Onan EC-30 Auto Generator start manual. There are three things that will start the generator. These are low battery voltage below the level set in the EC-30, a call from the Thermostat for AC and the loss of AC power.
All of these assume require programming in the EC30 and some require physical wiring - The thermostat must be connected and there must be a sense lead connected typically from a door bell transformer installed to detect AC loss - when the EC30 was installed. If the wiring or the programming was not done, then yours could be starting on low battery voltage.
It is virtually impossible to say with any certainty why yours started without understanding all the settings. Suggest you read the manual - the EC-30 looks really simple but once you understand its full functionality, I am sure you will determine what caused it to start. It is also a very powerful feature if you leave pets in your coach.
Good luck,
