Onan repair

Our propane Onan quit the night it was 22F. Might not have had anything to do with it, but...

We'd run this thing four years and serviced it every 150 hours or so; it had only 500 hours on it. But it's also 23 years old.

The Cummins/Onan tech showed me the tube that runs above the exhaust pipe and the guck that leaked out of it. He showed me the elbow that went to the regulator and the guck coming out of it. Much worse, he showed me the regulator that was still leaking oil and guck on the bench a day later!

It's a testimony to the Onan that it could run so long with so much crap in the system. These aren't service items; no one would look at them without a gripe.

It's running fine now. The tube on top of the exhaust pipe, which heats the liquid propane to gas, the regulator and the tube from the regulator to the carb were all replaced.

An extreme difficulty was that the generator had to come out to get at those items; getting the generator out involved removing the MH front grill, raising the front a foot or so, blocking up the generator, then lowering the MH so the generator could fit through that hole with about a half-inch to spare.
