Onan shutdown from temp???
Does hi temp cause a shutdown? I was on the road and at a rest stop I had it quit after running about 4 minutes while I had the AC and microwave running. It was hot outside but don't think it was excessively hot.
Is there some sort of temp sensor on the gen?
After arriving home I ran it with the AC for about 15 minutes and it was no problem.

Read your manual, there may be a way to retrieve the fault code. I know I can with my 7.5KW Onan. I believe if you press the start button 3 times quickly it may retrieve the codes.

What size generator, how many ac's were running and what was the outside temp? Yes, the beverage could shut down due to high temp...it happened to us in Arizona when it was over 95º outside in May

Yes it can shutdown due to high temp. If it is one that pulls cool air from the bottom then exhaust it down as well then on hot pavement I have had this happen.

When was the last scheduled PM maintenance done? If it's been awhile or you don't know I'd do a 100hr. or 500hr PM depending on the hour meter. Do your PM 1st and establish a baseline. You have to eliminate the basics 1st.
Then, if it still shuts down and there are no codes at all, my first look would be the fuel pump. Crawl under the generator and follow the fuel line to the fuel filter. The fuel pump is right in front of that. If the generator gets to hot, and the fuel pump is weak it will fail under a load like you described. I just went through this and had to replace my fuel pump.

The fuel pumps, on this vintage gasoline Onan generator, are known to fail. The failure often occurs at warm ambient temps when the fuel pump gets tight and stops pumping. I had the same thing happen two years ago. Changed fuel pump and workin' fine.

onan shutdown from temp???
Yes it can.. mine did a few months ago.. 7.5k Onan in 2006 Newmar DSDP. It was the temp sensor which is screwed into the thermostat housing. It's a DIY if you feel comfortable in tight spaces and have the correct tools. The port where the sensor screws into gets corroded, so use heat to help in removal and don't be surprised if the brass end piece brakes off. If that happens, remove thermostat housing and thermostat, shove a shop rag deep into housing. Use punch to punch stuck brass nipple into housing and then pull shop rag out with brass piece in it. Clean out port with wire brush and install new temp sensor and replace thermostat and housing.
Hope this helps.
