I have a 2000 Georgie boy. My problem is cleaning and waxing the nose cap. Due to the angle of the windshield I can't reach from a folding ladder. I can get some from the sides but not the middle. Does anyone know if I can cushion a ladder and lean it against the windshield ? The leaning over the front doesn't work, not to mention dangerous.

I ran into that same problem. Used a squeeze mop to apply the wax and then tied a T-shirt around the head to buff it out. Primative but beats going up top and maybe slipping off head first. Nobody will say it is okay to put pressure on the windshield(well maybe some with less sense than most).

I put cushioned pads on my ladder and leaned it just above the windshield on the front cap.

When I wax, about once a year, I get up on the roof,set,down, and hang my legs off the front edge. For just a wash, I have a brush on an extension pole (Wal Mart).

for the more infrequent thorough cleanings, I have had the same question and now that I read this...what about combining two suggestions from this thread?

How about putting the ladder in the extension configuration, wrapping a few towels around the ladder where the ladder will hit the top of the MH, bungying around them to hold them in place, and tying the ladder to each mirror mounting arm where it's real solid? (We dont have bumpers to tie to)

Then you could even wax the top cap and apply rain-x across the top of the windshield.

Wouldnt that work just fine and be pretty solid?

I would think the towels would distribute the weight preventing any concern about load on the windshield? (or scratching) and the ropes to the mirrors would prevent the ladder from sliding off?

Your thoughts?

My thoughts are that I would never lean a ladder against the windshield, padded or not. But that's just me.

Ah...good distinction...I just looked at our MH and the nose cap above the windshield goes straight up a good 8" before it curves back to the top of the MH so a padded extension ladder with the base out about 3' - 4' would rest against that area of the nose cap where it rounds back, well above the windshield..

But...I just measured and if I pulled our toad (Honda Element) along side the front and stood on the top of it, I could easily reach the top of the windshield and the top where the clearance lights are...that may be even safer. I have 4 of those interloking floor pads for the shop and could put those on top of the toad to more ensure solid footing plus distribute the weight a little...it seems? Has anyone else stood on their toad to reach the cap?

Standing on the roof of your TOAD is a bad idea. You might get away with it once or twice but eventually the roof will budge, the headliner will pop and then you got a messed up interior. Notwithstanding the huge dent you will put in the sheetmetal and the dangers of standing on things not designed for it. Get youself one of those little ladders advertised on TV about 2 AM. They are really great. "The little giant".

I use the cheap nylon tiedowns from Home Cheapo and tie the ladder to the mirrors so it wont slide out from under me and I can stretch and use a long handled device to wash and wax.
