One more winterizing task

We full-time in our coach, including winters at 7000' in the mountains. We have a GE Profile Spacemaker microwave/convection oven over the cook top that has an exhaust fan to vent out the exterior wall behind it. When it gets cold and the wind blows, it is easy to feel a blast of cold air under the microwave coming into the coach through the vent filters. Apparently, at least in our Newmar, there is no flap in the exhaust vent.

To keep the interior warmer and not waste propane, I have blocked off the exterior vent with some scrap reflectix taped over the vent with blue painters tape. Not very elegant, but effective, easy to remove and the difference is immediately noticeable.

Note: I put another piece of the tape over the exhaust fan switch on the microwave as a reminder to not run the fan in the winter. If I need to vent, I just crack open the Fantastic fan over the stove. I have done this for the last several winters and it makes us much more comfortable.

Having done this for several winters it must be working out fine, but make sure your CO detector is working properly. You’ve probably considered this...
