Ongoing 2008 UFO Probs. Rear 8.1 GM Vortec
I love the coach but have a lot of ongoing problems which has cost me a lot on Diagnostics. Allison, and Drive train analysis etc. etc.
Just had both exhaust manifolds replaced, also mufflers pipes etc. This is the GM Vortec 8.1 When I drove it home it lacked power and had the shakes. I went down through the access floor. The shop had broken a few plug leads and not connected some. I replaced all wires and is now good.
MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS I HAVE REPLACED THE DRIVER SIDE, LEFT SIDE MUFFLER 4 TIMES. REGARDLESS OF QUALITY THEY BREAK UP After approx. 1000 miles. Passenger side is ok.
Do any other rear engine UFO friends have a similar problem?
No error codes for lean or rich mixture?
Thanks....

What do you mean by "Break up" at or around a thousand miles? Are the mufflers just cracking/breaking/falling apart etc.? Are they or, at least the drivers side one, improperly mounted and with no support? Or, is the inside MELTING away from too hot of running conditions?

I agree, those UFO's are devilish. I hear the Air Force is investigating them again so you could call them up. Other wise just wait until they fly away. Everything will start working again after they leave.

Some came apart at the seams, some broke apart on the end cap joined to the tailpipe. Another the baffles disintegrated. My current stainless steel muffler has buckled, and the end seam is split.

Without knowing the layout of the exhaust system, my first thought is undue stress on the muffler, perhaps a broken motor mount or something similar that is causing the exhaust system to flex more than it is designed to.

Hi,
I have not heard of this issue before. When I had brake issues with my Workhorse UFO Ultra Rv helped me immensely.

maybe have UFO pilot take photos of his exhaust system to see if there is any difference, hanger bracket or brace. Something is moving to make things break.

Friend had UFO. BLEW 2 ENGINES. Cause was fan failure.
Both were covered under after market warranty.
Traded for Tiffin RED.

My engine blew in 2017 while I was near Daytona FL. Left it there for 2 months, for engine replacement.

Solid advice. But it's possible something isn't moving, as in the exhaust on that side is too rigidly supported, or was moved away from it's original location. I've had that happen on an old AMC car I once owned that would chew through exhaust manifold donuts (straight 6) because the engine mounts flexed, but the exhaust supports were too rigid and they were holding the pipe too firmly while the engine moved.
The OP can also take a look at the side that's not having trouble to see if there's any obvious differences in the support scheme.
