OTR AC Compressor's

We've, my primary mechanic and I, have been monitoring what appears to be a very slow (Very, very - as it's been over 2 yrs now!) breaking down of the seal on the Over The Road AC compressor (On an 04 Country Coach with CAPS era ISL.). Just a hint of discoloration at first, and now a fine dust like accumulation clinging.). The AC still is producing good cooling, and 18 months ago or so the mechanic topped it off, and took such a small amount he did not even bill me for the freon..

Was wondering if anyone has had a compressor seal start to leak like this too. And then ask 'How long did it go?' before it failed?

My understanding is these are not rebuildable, when the seal goes, basically you put on a new compressor.

And if you had one fail, did it ripple over to a bearing seizing and or clutch failure - an take out the fan belt too?

Mostly just wanting to get some 'Hmmm!' info, to file away in memory as I'll continue to monitor the unit for now.

TIA for any Info Sharing! And best to all,
Smitty
