OTR Truck Tires vs Conventional Tires

I am in the market for fresh tread and wonder if anyone has any knowledge of what tire would be best for my Tiffin Allegro Bay 37DB that comes from factory with 235/80 R22.5. I have looking at Tractor-trailer set ups as far as tires but don't want to waste money on it. A 9R22.5 would be the comparable size for factory but was thinking of maybe going bigger like a 11R22.5 which would come out to a 255/80 R22.5

Sincerely,

If you're going to increase the size of your tires, make sure you wheels can accept the bigger size and make sure they'll fit in your wheel wells.

Yup--need to check/compare both diameter and circumference between tire sizes and brands before you buy....

X2;

BIG jump in tire height between 9 R and 11 R, I just bought OTR tires in 275/75/22.5 and the 11 R would have been 4" taller . The added height would have messes up the chassis torque curve to road speed; to the point where I'd be living in second gear on all the hills.

Why are you deviating from the tire size that came on your coach?

The factory rated your tire for chassis. Why second guess Tiffin & the chassis mfg?

235/80R22.5 size tires are made only by Michelin. If you don't want to buy more of the same, the closest size that is common from many other brands is 245/75R22.5 I don't think you should use any size other than those two I listed above. Just too many potential complications if you go to a bigger tire, and 11R22.5 is out of the question bigger.

Reason why for this question is I don't really know the difference between over the road tires that the semi trucks use and their benefits over say the 235/80 R22.5 that the manufacturer put on it. The second half of the post as far as a larger size is due to the previous owner installed 255/70 R22.5 on the rig figure I might get away with the bigger size like the 11R22.5 seems how the dimensions are very similar to the 255/80 R22.5.

I use 22.5 11R and talking to motorhome owners and comparing prices truck tires are much cheaper ? I pay around $400 for a tire(canadian) ,but I have noticed they crack and check very quickly after 3 -4 years of use .
Iam told by truckers that the cause could be the lack of use ,truck sits 4 months a year.
Its likely that 11R tires do not have a lot of the components/chemicals to prevent cracking?
just throwing this out there.

I have a 2005 AB 37DB and I am running Toyo M154 245/75R22.5

They are almost at 3 years with around 15,000, I have had no issues with the tires, I have nothing to compare them too, as they were on the RV when I bought it.

If I had to buy tires right now, I would be buying the Toyo M154 again.

Also if you do a search of the forum, there are a lot of RVs running the M154s

Saw this link the other day on RV.Net. Might help a bit with physical size comparing.

My local wingfoot dealer recommended 245/75/22.5 as they are only 2 tenths shorter but wider than the 235/80. I had them install 245/75/22.5 yokohamas and I have 3700 miles on them so far. Good tire, good price too. My speedo is very close too, checks with my Garmin.

I changed from Michelin 235/80 R22.5 tires over four years ago. I am pleased with the result. Here is a link to the brand and size change I made.
