Out of sync diesel pump readouts

I-26 Northbound, stopped for fuel at a Flying J Travel Center. Truck fueling lanes- filled coach with 87.3 gallons of diesel. Went to pay inside with credit card and same pump readout showed 96.3 gallons used. Attendant said that is what is owed. I argued but to know avail. Went back to pump and she had reset it to 0000. I should have taken a screen shot at pump when I finished fueling but did not. Has this happened to anyone else? Stay safe.

I have not had this happen to me - at least not that I'm aware of.

I know that the pumps have to be "certified" that they are correct regarding the dispensed amount and displayed amount. There is a certification "sticker" on the pump and a number to call to report problems (at least in FL there is). in FL it is the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS).

I suppose you could have waited for the next guy getting fuel and recorded the amount dispensed shown on the pump then followed the guy inside to see if there is also a discrepancy on his bill. Then threaten to call the department to make a complaint. Maybe they would have revised your bill (if they knew they were in the wrong).

I had that happen to me some years ago but on a gas pump and filling my pickup. They had an explanation that I didn't agree with but was just 20 or 30 dollars so didn't argue any more. It was on a trip so just figured s*** happens.

Get the Pilot/Flying J app. It gives you a discount and a code to use at the pump. Save a little money and eliminate the hassle of going inside.

Not all PFJ travel centers are company-owned, some are franchise operations and not under control of the company. Just saying. What is registered on the pump must be accurate per the county weights and measures inspector.
